Each year on the 1st of September, around the beginning of Spring, I like to read Song of Songs 2:8-13. Arise my love. The winter has passed. Flowers appear. A season of singing has come. As I see and smell the blossoms in their beauty, it reminds me of the invitation to grow closer to Jesus. This annual rhythm helps me to check in on my relationship with God. Am I still looking, listening and pursuing God with the energetic joy of first love?
It’s still technically winter, with cold wind and rain and mud. And practically our global circumstances still seem turbulent and wintery. But the spring growth reminds me that spiritually there is a new season for all of us, with singing, joy and renewed relationship with our Creator who loves us deeply.
